Mordant Mass
Happy new year to all readers. I have pleasure in announcing details of the first Ekoplekz gig of 2011…
Mordant Mass
(an evening with Mordant Music)
“…all of the MM collaborators have manifested mercurially somehow and that’s how it should be…tendrils and residual echoes are always out there and I think MM just absorbs whatever feels right and proper…” Baron Mordant, 2008
A benchmark of strange futurism, an electronic equivalent of architectural brutalism, Mordant Music is an asylum for sonic radicals. Exotic Pylon is thrilled to present an evening of live music from one of the finest labels in the world…
Mordant Music
Baron Mordant will be providing magic-realist interventions throughout the evening courtesy of vinyl and his own sublime reality-melting visual spells contained on the MisinforMation DVD.
Ekoplekz
Following on from 2 electro-charred self-released compilations and a superb 12″ for Bristol’s Punch Drunk Records, we’re thrilled to present the live London debut of Nick ‘Gutterbreakz’ Edwards’ Ekoplekz- a mangled and mutated fusion of early Cabaret Volatire-stye primitivism and post-dubstep atmospherics that sound like “flanged data riddimsquirts [navigating] a snakelike flightpath through a cavernous maze of tunnels” (kid-shirt, 2010). Click here to listen to Ekoplekz live on exotic pylon last year.
Vindicatrix
David Aird’s recent reworking of Michael Jackson’s Human Nature (Hume) was a high watermark at the turn of 2010. Vindicatrix is SaturnAlien cabaret and the art of the song torn every which way- one of the most remarkable sonic endeavours of recent years. Staking out alien territory from Schubert and sub-bass, between post-rave rhythm and the runined croon of Scott Walker circa Tilt and The Drift, Vindicatrix will leave you beguiled, baffled and overwhelmed. Vindicatrix took over the Exotic Pylon in April last year- hear here.
Shackleton
From the inception of the Skull Disco label (in collaboration with Appleblim) through to his recent Fabric live album and new label (Woe to the Septic Heart) Shackleton has always been orbiting the very outer limits of dance music. His sound is now so entirely idiosyncratic that really he is the dubstep-equivalent of Miles Davis’ On The Corner- avant-electronic voodoo that is hyper-compulsive and utterly captivating- the peak of junglist rhythmic exploration rewired for the new century. Rarely performing in the UK, this is a truly opportunity to experience one of the finest producers in the world in an intimate setting.
