Westerleigh Works EP ++
Posted in catalogue, media on 19/12/2011 by EkoladMy final release of the year is the Westerleigh Works EP, released on the Perc Trax label. It features three new tracks, plus a remix by the legendary Richard H. Kirk, of Cabaret Voltaire. Richard is one of my all-time biggest musical heroes, so to have him involved in this is just amazing. He’s been in the news quite a bit recently, on account of some excellent archival releases of his previous work, and has done several interviews, including this one, where he even gives me a mention.
My EP is the 50th release on Perc Trax. The label is run by Perc himself, aka Ali Wells, and has been getting a lot of media attention this year. Just recently it was Resident Adviser’s label of the month, and the accompanying mix should give you a good idea of what the label is all about (and there’s another label mix by Perc here, plus another interview with him over at The Quietus). RA are also running a competition this month – there are three signed copies of my 12″ to be won – and Andrew Ryce gave the EP a respectable 4/5 in his review.
The EP also got a good review from Sam Davies in this month’s Wire magazine, and there’s a nice write-up at Low Riders too. From this week, it should be widely available on 12″ vinyl and download, and you can stream the tracks via soundcloud.

I did pretty well in The Wire magazine’s end-of-year charts. Intrusive Incidentalz Vol.1 was #31 in the top 50 albums of the year, and Tapeswap by Ekoclef appeared in the best electronica list.

There’s an in-depth interview with me by Sammi Maine in the fabulous new print publication Tape-Echo, which you can buy here.

There are several releases already planned for 2012. The first is a limited edition cassette on the tiny Plant Migration Records, run by the artist Dane Patterson in Brooklyn, NYC. The cassette will be shipping in January, but you can pre-order it now from the label’s website if you so desire.

This is my final update of 2011, so I’d just like to say a quick, but heart-felt thank you everyone who bought the records, came to the gigs, or helped me out over the past 12 months. In particular, I’d like to give a special mention to the following for their sterling support and encouragement: Tom at Punch Drunk, Baron Mordant, Ali Perc, Ralph Cumbers, Jade Boyd, Mark & Chloe at Further Records, 2ND Fade, Jonny Mugwump, Alex at Public Information, Sam Davies, Mark Fisher, Joe Stannard, Andrew Bowman, John Eden, Loki, Kek-W, Joe Muggs, Chiz/Qu Junctions, Vincent Korman, Craig at UCA Farnham, Sam at BBC Introducing, Bad Timing crew, Ali Wade at Spannered, Oli & James at Sonic Router, Alex & Sammi at Tape Echo, and all the djs, podcasters, club and concert promoters, bloggers, tweeters, journos and fellow artists who helped spread the word. See you next year…

The event features first-time collaborations between: Kathy Hinde and SJ Esau, Tom Bugs and Ekoplekz, and Skjølbrot and Simon Whetham.

Ekoclef Updates
Posted in media on 25/11/2011 by EkoladEkoclef’s “Tapeswap” got a great review by Adam Harper in this month’s Wire Magazine, and our tracks featured in both the ‘Office Ambience’ chart and the Rewired radio show, so I think its safe to say they like it.
Elsewhere, John Eden wrote a nice review of the album, along with our live set at Cafe Oto, over at his blog, Uncarved.
Though sparsely attended, the third Ekoclef gig in sleepy Farnham went very well, and there’s a brief write-up by organizer Craig at Skipratmedia.
There’s an interesting interview with my Ekoclef partner Ralph Cumbers over at The Quietus, where he talks a bit about our collaboration, and I was recently invited to appear on BBC Radio Bristol’s ‘Introducing’ programme, where I talked a bit about the Ekoclef project, among other things. There’s a clip of that here.
